A Yemeni government source said that a high-ranking leader in Al-Qaeda was killed in a US drone strike in Ma’rib Governorate, northeastern… Yemen.
The source explained to RIA Novosti that an American drone carried out an air strike east of the city of Ma’rib on a motorcycle that was carrying the military leader of Al-Qaeda, Munir al-Ahdal, and his companion, which led to their deaths.
According to the source, Al-Ahdal was considered a high-ranking field commander in Al-Qaeda in Yemen and was working in several governorates of the country.
An Al-Qaeda leader was killed
Yemeni media reported that the air strike targeted Al-Qaeda military leader Munir Al-Ahdal, known as Abu Al-Hayja Al-Hadidi, and another person who was with him.
At the time of their attack, they were on a motorcycle, while they were passing through an area called Radmiyat Al-Ramsa in Al-Wadi District, east of Ma’rib Governorate.
Al-Ahdal, the target in the operation, is considered one of the most prominent field commanders in Al-Qaeda, and during previous periods he held leadership duties, including an emir and a military commander in each of the Al-Bayda, Ibb, Shabwa, Abyan, and Lahj governorates in Yemen.
