Al-Masry Club of Port Said defeats Kaizer Chiefs by two in the opening of their Confederation Cup campaign

The match began with relative control from Al-Masry, who tried to break the visitors’ defensive formation through quick movements on the flanks and penetrations from deep. Despite numerous attempts, the team did not succeed in translating its superiority into goals during the first half, as the Kaizer Chiefs defense blocked several chances, and their goalkeeper appeared in more than one influential shot, depriving the hosts of the lead.

In the second half, the pace of the match increased significantly, and Al-Masry was able to open the scoring in the 59th minute through Rwandan player Bonhir Mugisha, who took advantage of a perfect cross pass inside the area and shot the ball powerfully into the net, announcing the team’s first goal in the group stage. After the goal, Kaizer Chiefs tried to quickly return, and actually equalized in the 66th minute through Dylan Solomons, who took advantage of a counterattack and was alone with the goalkeeper before successfully putting the ball into the goal.

Although Al-Masry was affected by the equalizer, the team did not give up, and continued to put pressure on the visitors’ defense in search of a second goal that would give them the full match points. In the 87th minute, defender Mohamed Hashem succeeded in scoring the winning goal after a free ball was played inside the penalty area. He rose to it with his head and brilliantly turned it past the goalkeeper, to ignite the stadium’s stands and confirm Al-Masry’s superiority.

With this victory, Al-Masry wins its first three points in the group, putting a strong foot forward in its journey in the tournament, while Kaizer Chiefs remains without a score waiting for the next rounds to try to compensate for its opening loss.
