Dr. Mahmoud Esmat met with Minister Electricity and renewable energywith Dr. Sherif Helmy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital, to discuss the latest developments, work processes, and developments in the implementation of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, and to emphasize commitment to the plan, plan, and timetables specified for completing the work of the strategic project and connecting to the national electricity grid.

Accelerating the pace of work on the Dabaa nuclear project

During the meeting, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat reviewed the work processes within the national project, ways and procedures to accelerate the implementation of the project within the framework of the time plan, the rates of completion of the various stages, and the emphasis on continuing close coordination between those responsible for implementing the project from the Egyptian and Russian sides, the partnership and continuous communication between the working crews, and commitment to the work plan, schedules and timings, in light of the state’s strategy for floating transformation, and considering the nuclear energy sector as one of the most important components of the energy mix and a basic pillar for achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030, achieving sustainable development and meeting needs. Increasing electricity supply and enhancing energy security.

He stressed that the Dabaa nuclear station project is one of the fruits of the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia, based on the depth of the distinguished and extended relations between the two countries, which was demonstrated in the implementation of this giant project within the framework of the peaceful Egyptian nuclear program for generating electrical energy.

Dr. Esmat discussed the development of the business, implementation developments, the achievements made at all levels, achieving the implementation goals during the months of January and February, and the work plan to benefit from experiences and competencies at the level of internal and external training and qualifying the human cadres necessary to operate the project, as well as expanding the manufacturing of some supplies and equipment locally within the framework of the strategy of localizing the industry and increasing the proportion of the local component, and the plan to diversify the sources of electricity generation and the energy mix, explaining the importance of ensuring continued integration and cooperation between all parties involved and implementing the project.

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat said that there is a presidential mandate to rely on renewable and clean energies, and that there is a permanent follow-up by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of the Dabaa nuclear station project and the implementation procedures and adherence to the timetable for completing the work and the specific timing for completing the various stages and connecting to the network, stressing the special importance of the Dabaa nuclear station project within the framework of the Egyptian peaceful nuclear program for generating electricity.

He explained the electricity sector’s work strategy, which is based on diversifying the sources of electricity generation and the energy mix and relying on new and renewable energies to reduce fuel consumption and reduce carbon emissions, stressing the state’s interest in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and the importance of this within the framework of the sustainable development plan and achieving the desired development in various fields, especially in electric power generation. He pointed to providing full support, cooperation and integration between the various concerned parties in order to complete the national project, within the framework of a comprehensive strategy to achieve stability and continuity of the unified network, improve the quality of services and rely on clean energies.
