The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump informed his aides of his readiness to end the military campaign against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, and to postpone the complex process of reopening it until a later time.

The newspaper quoted three US administration officials as saying that the Trump administration believes that the mission to open the Strait of Hormuz may prolong the war beyond 4 to 6 weeks.

According to officials, Washington’s current goals “focus on weakening the Iranian navy and reducing its missile capabilities.”

Officials indicated that there are additional military options on the table against Iran, but they are not a current priority for Trump.
