Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadiq, President of Cairo University, announced that the National Cancer Institute has achieved a new scientific achievement that will be added to the university’s credit, as a team of researchers at the National Cancer Institute succeeded in publishing a new scientific study in the “Cancer Education” journal affiliated with “Springer Nature” under the title: “From misleading information to effective participation: A methodological framework for audio-visual education about cancer in countries with limited resources.” The study provides a scientific and methodological framework for developing simplified and reliable audio-visual educational materials directed at breast cancer patients and their companions in low- and middle-income settings, which contributes to improving understanding of the disease, enhancing confidence in correct medical information, and supporting the patient’s treatment journey in a more aware and reassuring way.

The President of Cairo University stressed that this scientific achievement reflects the excellence of the university staff and their ability to provide applied research that has a direct impact on community health, thus enhancing Cairo University’s position as a leading institution in supporting scientific research related to the needs of society. He praised the effort made in developing an innovative model for health education that relies on simplifying medical information using modern audio-visual means, which contributes to raising the awareness of breast cancer patients and improving their quality of life, and demonstrates that health education is not an additional element in medical care, but rather an essential part of the quality of the service provided.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Muti Samra, Dean of the National Cancer Institute, said that this scientific publication reflects the Institute’s commitment to developing advanced models of comprehensive care that combine specialized treatment, scientific research, and effective health education, especially in the field of breast cancer, which represents one of the most important areas of work and development within the Institute. He pointed out that the study aimed to provide an educational model based on short videos and simplified audio-visual content, in a language close to the people and in the colloquial Egyptian dialect, which helps improve understanding, reduce fear, and enhance the confidence of breast cancer patients. And their companions with the correct medical information.

For his part, Dr. Imad Shash, Director of the Breast Hospital in the community, and the main researcher in this study, confirmed that this work represents an important step in the Institute’s journey to make health education an integral part of the quality of care for breast cancer patients, and not just a complementary activity, pointing out the keenness of the Institute and its hospitals for patients and their families to obtain the correct and simplified information that enables them to understand the steps of diagnosis, and deal better with the side effects and psychological challenges associated with the treatment journey, pointing out that this study provides a model that other health institutions can benefit from. Inside and outside Egypt to develop health education in breast cancer care through practical, effective and applicable means.

It is worth noting that this study was not limited to producing awareness videos only, but was based on an organized scientific approach that includes identifying priority topics in the treatment journey for breast cancer patients, writing the medical content presented to them accurately, simplifying it in easy and understandable language, and reviewing it through a multidisciplinary team, before producing it in an appropriate audio-visual format. The final materials were subjected to regulatory review before publication, and these materials were integrated into the routine education process for patients inside the breast hospital, ensuring that educational messages arrive in a timely manner and in a clear manner. And influential.
