The German Football Association announced the imposition of a fine on the Union Berlin club, in the wake of the events of its match against Eintracht Frankfurt in the German League, which witnessed the extensive use of fireworks by the fans.

A huge fine was imposed on Union Berlin after the Eintracht Frankfurt match was stopped

According to what was published by the German newspaper Bild, the German Football Association decided to fine the Union Berlin club an amount of 340 thousand euros, due to lighting a large number of fireworks inside the stands of the Alten Forstraei Stadium, which led to the match being stopped for about 7 minutes by a decision of the referee Soren Storks.

The Federation explained that part of the fine is estimated at 113,000 euros, which the club can use to improve security measures and combat violence, while the rest of the amount will be paid directly.

Reports indicated that the number of torches that were lit during the meeting may have reached 450, while the sanctions list stipulates the imposition of a fine of approximately 1,000 euros for each case, which could have increased the value of the penalty further.

The duration of the match stoppage, which exceeded 5 minutes, also contributed to the severity of the penalty, in addition to the club being considered a repeat offender this season.

Union Berlin continues to top the list of clubs most subject to penalties in the German League, after the total fines imposed on it due to similar incidents reached about 592.5 thousand euros since the beginning of the season.
