He explained, during an intervention with journalist Amr Adeeb, that the aforementioned death case is not related to widespread bacterial meningitis, but rather due to a previous infection with tuberculosis (TB), which developed and reached the membranes surrounding the brain, leading to death, stressing that this case is individual and does not represent a threat to public health.

He pointed out that the rates of meningitis infection in Egypt are very low, and do not exceed 0.03 cases per 100,000 citizens, which is a lower rate than global averages, stressing that no epidemic cases have been detected.

He added that the country has a strong surveillance and vaccination system, with millions of doses provided annually to school students and the most vulnerable groups, which contributed to complete control of the disease.

The Ministry of Health spokesman stressed that there is no need for any exceptional measures or additional vaccination campaigns at the present time, calling on citizens not to be led by rumors and to rely on official data only.
