Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a death penalty law Prisoners The Palestinians, in a move that represents a dangerous and unprecedented escalation and a flagrant violation of the rules of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, as well as a gross undermining of the basic guarantees of a fair trial.

Egypt: Invalid legislation enshrines a systematic discriminatory approach

Egypt affirmed in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that this invalid legislation establishes a systematic discriminatory approach and strengthens the apartheid system by discriminating in its application between Palestinians and others, in violation of the most basic principles of justice and equality before the law. It also represents a flagrant violation of the existing legal situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, according to which Israeli legislation does not apply to Palestinian citizens in the West Bank.

The statement stated that Egypt has repeatedly warned against ignoring the grave Israeli violations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip against the backdrop of the current military escalation in the region, and stresses the seriousness of this measure and its repercussions on the stability of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the chances of containing the escalation, reiterating its categorical rejection of all unilateral Israeli policies and measures.

Egypt called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities and take firm and immediate positions to stop these blatant violations and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and safeguard their legitimate rights in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
