Indian cardiologist Dr. Alok Chopra explained that the increase in cases of gluten allergy is due to the significant change in the nature of the wheat currently used, according to what was published by the Hindustan Times newspaper.
Causes of gluten sensitivity
Chopra said modern wheat has become hybridized and over-processed compared to the natural wheat consumed by previous generations, making it more harmful to the digestive system.
He pointed out that modern gluten may cause inflammation in the intestines and weaken its lining, leading to what is known as leaky gut syndrome.
He explained that this condition may stimulate the immune system to attack the body’s tissues, which increases the risk of autoimmune diseases.
Chopra identified common symptoms of gluten sensitivity, including bloating, fatigue, confusion, joint pain and unexplained weight gain.
He also pointed out that children may suffer from hyperactivity and intestinal disorders as a result of gluten intolerance.
The cardiologist advised trying to abstain from gluten for four weeks while following a diet that supports the intestines, stressing that many people notice a noticeable improvement during this period.
