Twitter adds election hub to upload ‘reputable’ news and voting information

Recently, some people have been providing false information on Twitter and following a disinformation policy about the American elections, so Twitter intends to get rid of this information, so it will add a new feature that allows it to take more stringent measures regarding tweets that may undermine the election results.

Now, the company is taking new steps to promote official election information to its users ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

Twitter is offering a dedicated place for election news on its platform with a new “US Elections” tab in the Explore section of the app and website. According to Twitter, the center aims to “make it easier for people to find accurate information and resources on Twitter” about the election.

It will serve as a hub for voting resources and polling information, as well as election-related news. The company will highlight election-specific moments from “reputable news outlets,” for example, as well as live broadcasts of official events such as upcoming debates.

Twitter will also promote ads to educate users on how to vote, including how to request an absentee ballot.

The new section on the platform comes at a time when Twitter and other platforms are trying to enhance their services ahead of the 2020 elections, with more people expected to vote by mail than in previous years. Experts have warned that companies need to do more to prevent the spread of misinformation, especially if the winner is not immediately clear on election night.

Twitter, along with Facebook, Google and Microsoft, also recently met with government agencies to discuss election security.
