Vivo continues to reveal the details of its Vivo Although the improvements to this camera appear to be less than expected, it still offers an interesting upgrade within Zeiss’s exceptional, no-compromise camera system.
The ultra-wide-angle camera was highlighted after Han Boxiao, Product Manager at Vivo, provided an in-depth look at the strengths of the 35mm main camera and the improved 200MP telephoto lens. A recent post by the official on the Weibo platform revealed that the 14 mm ultra-wide lens will see few changes in specifications compared to its predecessor, which is still unprecedented in the Vivo X200 Ultra phone.
Many expected Vivo to rely on the advanced LYT-828 sensor from Sony that was used in the main camera of the Vivo X300 Pro phone, but the company decided to keep the LYT-818 sensor from Sony for the Ultra version of this generation. Although both sensors share the same 1/1.28-inch size, it’s naturally disappointing that the 2026 flagship doesn’t benefit from the improved dynamic range offered by the newer sensor.
Despite these frustrations, Han Boxiao hinted that there were other improvements related to the ultra-wide camera to compensate for this deficiency. These upgrades included raising the CIPA level from 5.0 to 6.0 as part of a renewed focus on providing better video quality to users, and although this number may not be as impressive as the CIPA level of 7.0 for the telephoto lens, the phone remains undisputed in wide-angle photography thanks to optical image stabilization and the largest ultra-wide sensor in any smartphone.
It seems that the internal view shared by Vivo carries within it a hidden detail that arouses curiosity, as it was not obscured by a traditional black box, but rather hidden using colored sunglasses. These hints indicate the possibility of incorporating a new multi-spectral sensor to improve color accuracy and the imaging experience in general, and these details are likely to be fully revealed on March 10 to complete the picture of this phone.
