Honor announced the launch of its new smart watch, Watch GS 5, which will be available for pre-order starting at least January 19 in the Chinese market.

Details about the availability of the watch in other markets are still unclear, but the possibility of its launch in Europe is possible, given that Honor officially sells its other smart watches there.

So far, Honor has not revealed the full technical specifications or price of the Watch GS 5, and has only revealed some features and published several photos. According to the company, the watch weighs 0.92 ounces and is 0.39 inches thick. Honor claims battery life of up to 23 days, a number that may apply when restricted power saving mode is activated.

In the ad, Honor focuses on the watch’s ability to assess heart risks and effectively alert the user before a potential heart attack occurs. However, how this feature works, and whether it can achieve medical device certifications in Europe and other regions, is still unclear.

In comparison, other smartwatches measure cardiac risk indirectly and are often linked to fitness.

According to Honor, the Watch GS 5 allows you to measure the heart’s ability to decelerate, which is a number that reflects the heart’s ability to reduce its heart rate. To our knowledge, none of the wearables from Apple, Garmin, or other major brands record this feature.

Although the concept of hysteresis power is not new in the medical field, it has not yet been widely adopted in daily clinical practice, compared to heart rate or ECG analysis, for example.
