A German court ruled in favor of Samsung in a legal dispute with TCL over QLED TVs, after Samsung proved that some of these devices do not actually use Quantum Dot technology despite being promoted as such.

Quantum dot technology is used in some displays to improve lighting efficiency and color accuracy.

In some Samsung TVs, the technology relies on a UV backlight, where quantum dots absorb this invisible light and re-emit it in the form of visible light in the desired colors.

This technology is characterized by its high ability to adjust the light wavelength with greater precision compared to traditional LED lamps.

During the case, Samsung was able to prove that a number of TCL TVs marketed under the QLED name do not in fact rely on quantum dot technology. TCL was unable to refute these allegations before the Regional Court in Munich.

The ruling included six different series of TVs, with the court ordering TCL to stop marketing them as QLED devices, in addition to correcting the misleading information associated with them. However, the ruling is not yet final, as the company is still able to file an appeal.

This legal confrontation is not limited to Germany only, as Samsung is engaged in similar disputes with TCL in both the United States and South Korea. The ruling in Germany may affect the course of other ongoing cases.
