Roblox has started implementing Real-Time Conversation Paraphrasing, an AI-based tool that converts swear words into kinder language instead of replacing them with symbols like “####.”

For example, the message “Hurry TF up!” to “Hurry up!” In order to maintain the clarity of in-game conversations without compromising the rules of politeness.

This represents a major change from the old filtering system, which broke the flow of conversations by converting large parts of the message into symbols, while the new system seeks to preserve the original meaning in cleaner language. Roblox notifies players when a message is reformulated, so that the modification is not hidden from others.

The feature is limited to conversations within the experience and across users whose ages have been verified within close age groups or within trusted relationships, as part of Roblox’s efforts to update the chat system, which has been implemented since January 2026.

The feature also works with all languages supported by automatic translation tools, making it a comprehensive upgrade to the monitoring system and not an experience limited to English only.

Roblox maintains that the tool is restricted and not an open rewrite, targeting obscenity first, while larger violations remain subject to the basic safety system. The system relies on a large but very specific linguistic model to preserve politeness without turning conversations into unintelligible symbols.

The question remains whether players will see this feature as a smart improvement to censorship or as an awkwardly automated editing layer, the effectiveness of which depends on how carefully the system maintains meaning without distortion or over-the-top stylization.
