Dr. Manal Awad held, Minister of Local Development and Environmentheld a meeting with Dr. Walid Al-Barqi, Governor of the Red Sea, at the ministry’s headquarters in the new capital, to follow up on a number of service and development files in the governorate, within the framework of periodic follow-up of the performance of executive agencies at the governorate level.

During the meeting, the Minister addressed the 28th wave to remove encroachments on state lands and confront violating construction, stressing the necessity of continuing immediate campaigns to deal with any new violations and confront attempts to encroach on agricultural lands and state lands, in a way that ensures urban discipline and preserves the rights of the state and citizens. She also stressed the importance of expediting the examination of legalization files and reconciliation of building violations to facilitate procedures.

The Minister also reviewed the governorate’s efforts to develop local services and technology centers, which facilitates procedures for citizens, and reflects the state’s trend towards digital transformation and raising the efficiency of government performance. It stressed improving the hygiene system and raising the efficiency of collection, transportation, and safe disposal of waste, ensuring the preservation of the cultural appearance of the governorate, especially tourist cities.

The meeting dealt with the issue of natural reserves, where the Minister stressed the importance of preserving the unique environmental and natural resources in the governorate, and achieving a balance between protecting the environment and supporting tourism activity to ensure sustainable exploitation of those resources. Efforts to control markets and ensure the availability of basic food commodities at reasonable prices were also discussed, in addition to monitoring the regularity of work in parking lots, applying the prescribed tariffs, and intensifying control campaigns to confront any attempts to monopolize or manipulate prices.

During the meeting, the position of investment projects for the current fiscal year was also reviewed, as the Minister stressed adherence to the timetables set for project implementation, which contributes to raising the quality of services and infrastructure for citizens.

For his part, Dr. Walid Al-Barqi, Governor of the Red Sea, affirmed his appreciation for the continuous follow-up and support from the Ministry of Local Development and Environment, noting the continued efforts of the executive agencies to address building violations, develop the hygiene and environmental services system, ensure the availability of food commodities, and quickly respond to citizens’ complaints, in addition to implementing the investment plan projects to improve the quality of life in various sectors in the governorate.
