Switch 2 sales saw a noticeable slowdown by the end of 2025, something that was not limited to this platform only. An attractive 2026 game schedule may help regain lost momentum, but former Nintendo PR managers Kate and Krista are having difficulty identifying potential games capable of driving console sales.

Kate and Krista recently spoke on a podcast about upcoming games for Switch 2, noting that there is a good range of upcoming titles, as they expect at least nine Nintendo-developed games to be released over the next year.

Third-party support also appears to be strong, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Resident Evil Requiem coming soon. However, some cross-platform releases may not attract players to purchase the mobile device.

Previous experts believe Nintendo will release no more than one game per month, leaving limited opportunities for surprises in 2026. A 3D Mario game or a new Zelda game could change the equation significantly, but fans will likely be limited to upgrades like Super Mario Bros. Wonder or the re-release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Also among the upcoming games is Mario Tennis Fever, which will be released in February for $70. However, Kate and Krista question its impact on Switch 2 sales, saying it has the potential to fail given Nintendo’s previous sports games have received lukewarm responses.

As for Pokémon fans, Pokémon Pokopia may arouse limited interest despite being exclusive to the new device, as Christa Yang noted that its graphics look outdated for the March release.

However, there remains excitement about the next major Pokémon release, called Pokémon Wind & Wave, which may be revealed in celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary. It will also likely be included in the Switch 2 bundle, especially since Nintendo has not yet replaced the Mario Kart World bundle settings.

The podcast concludes that the absence of a major game may discourage players from upgrading from the original Switch, which is still well supported including the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons update.
