New information indicates the possibility of the game Marathon arriving on previous generation devices, after it appeared on the ESRB classification page, as the list includes possible versions for both PS4 and Xbox One, although Bungie or Sony have not officially announced these platforms yet.
However, there are no indications that these versions will be launched simultaneously with the game’s launch date on March 5, as it is expected that it will be available at launch on PS5, Xbox Series
With Sony’s increasing trend towards supporting continuous service games across the largest possible number of platforms, the company may plan to launch previous generation versions at a later stage.
This possibility is based on similar precedents in the industry, as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was released in April 2023 for new generation consoles, before arriving on PS4 in September 2024.
But this approach has become less common recently, especially since Sony Interactive Entertainment has not released any notable game for PS4 over the past year.
Meanwhile, other companies are gradually moving away from old-gen support as next-gen consoles like the PS6 approach. For example, 2K Games will not release the PS4 and Xbox One versions of WWE 2K26, a first in the series’ history.

HoYoverse also announced the end of support for Genshin Impact on the PS4 platform, while the Call of Duty series remains one of the few exceptions, although reports indicate that this may change soon.
On the other hand, it is not unlikely that the inclusion of old platforms on the classification page is just a mistake. Some users pointed out that the same site had previously listed the PS4 version of the remastered Demon’s Souls game in 2020, before later correcting the information.
Also, the development of Marathon began in 2021, which means that the idea of releasing it for the previous generation may have been canceled later.
