A recent report from Ookla revealed a noticeable superiority of the iPhone Air compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Plus, as it achieved almost double its share in sales of the iPhone 17 series.
The iPhone Air recorded about 6.8% of the series’ total sales, compared to only 2.9% for the iPhone 16 Plus, which reflects the success of Apple’s trend towards providing a thinner design with a clear advantage for users. In the same context, the share of the standard iPhone 17 rose to 7% compared to 5.9% for the previous generation.
On the other hand, the Pro and Pro Max versions witnessed a decline in their share within the new series, especially the Pro version, which indicates that some users are turning to the Air option instead.

The report is based on Speedtest data, which means it is unofficial, but it does provide an indication of changing user preferences. He also pointed out that the iPhone Air outperforms the Galaxy S25 Edge in popularity within the United States by up to three times, while the latter’s presence remains limited in markets such as the United Kingdom and Germany.
On the other hand, the report indicated that the C1X modem used in the iPhone Air has reached an advanced level of performance, approaching the Qualcomm X80 modem in download speeds globally, which represents a leap compared to the previous version.
