In a week filled with intense activity and field movements, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, led by Dr Sherif Faroukfile “Food security“Securing the needs of citizens is at the forefront.
Between inspection tours of major silos and urgent ministerial meetings to assess the repercussions of regional events on supply chains, leading to decisive decisions to protect the prices of bread and basic commodities, the ministry sent strong reassuring messages to the Egyptian street: “The stock is safe, and the loaf of subsidized bread will not be harmed.”
These moves come in implementation of the directives of the political leadership regarding the necessity of complete vigilance in light of the current circumstances, while ensuring that support reaches those who deserve it and developing the infrastructure of the grain system in accordance with the latest international standards.
On alert in the “Crisis Committee”… alternative plans to secure food amid the fire in the region
The Ministry of Supply had a pivotal role in the urgent meetings chaired by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, with the participation of Dr. Sherif Farouk, to follow up on the repercussions of the American-Israeli military escalation against Iran and the mutual attacks in the Gulf region.
The Ministry participated in developing “alternative scenarios” to deal with any disturbances that may occur in global supply chains, stressing Egypt’s readiness to secure local markets from any international fluctuations.
At the Board of Governors meeting, Minister Farouk stressed the necessity of real-time field monitoring of the markets, and preventing any attempt to hide or monopolize goods, considering that price stability at this stage is a “national security” priority that cannot be tolerated.
Good news for citizens: no increase in the prices of bread and goods despite the movement of fuel
Despite the movement in gasoline and diesel prices, Dr. Sherif Farouk eradicated doubt with certainty, announcing a package of measures to protect the most needy classes, and the most important decisions were as follows:
Bread stability: Subsidized bread continues to be disbursed at only 20 piasters, with the state bearing the difference in production costs resulting from the increase in diesel prices for bakeries.
Stability of food supplies: There is no change in the prices of food supplies, with regular exchange operations in all consumer complexes and outlets.
Extending the presidential grant: In a humanitarian gesture, the Prime Minister, in the presence of the Minister of Supply, announced extending the disbursement of the 400 pounds to 15 million families until Eid al-Adha, to ease the burden of living.
The silo revolution.. from “Ataqa” to the localization of the industry with “Firm Misr”
In terms of infrastructure development, the Minister, accompanied by the Prime Minister, inspected the “Ataqa” silo in Suez, which is a fundamental pillar of the national silo project with a capacity of 60 thousand tons.
The Ministry is not only satisfied with employment, but is moving forward with “localizing the industry.” The minister held a meeting with the company “Firm Misr” to follow up on the project to manufacture grain silos locally in partnership with Polish technology, to reduce imports and increase the efficiency of wheat storage.
Controlling “tourist bread”… forced pricing to protect the pockets of consumers
The Ministry did not neglect to organize the “free bread” market, as Dr. Sherif Farouk issued Ministerial Directive No. (5) of 2026, which set maximum prices for tourist bread and fino:
Tourist bread: (80 grams for 2 pounds), (60 grams for 1.5 pounds), (40 grams for 1 pound).
Fino bread: (50 grams for 2 pounds), (40 grams for 1.5 pounds), (30 grams for 1 pound).
This decision aims to prevent exploitation of citizens and ensure that bakeries adhere to official weights and prices.
Pioneering and societal role: supporting Gaza and communicating with the community
In continuation of the Egyptian humanitarian role, the Ministry of Supply (General Committee for Foreign Aid) launched Convoy No. (16) to the Gaza Strip, carrying 1,900 tons of relief supplies, tents, and mattresses.
The Minister was also keen to strengthen community communication by attending the Al-Ahly Club Foundation for Community Development celebration, the “Long Live Egypt” website suhoor, and the National Front Party’s cultural forum, stressing that the Ministry is an integral part of the social and political fabric of the state.
Conclusion: The Ministry of Supply proved this week that it is an impenetrable “wall” that combines the efficiency of economic planning and the speed of responding to crises, so that Egyptian “food security” remains safe no matter how strong the regional challenges are.
