Google has officially completed the transition from Google Duo, making Google Meet the only application for video calls within its services.
The company had discontinued the Duo brand in 2022, but kept some of its features within the Meet application for a transitional period. This phase was scheduled to be completed in September 2025 before being postponed to January 2026, so that the transition would be completed gradually over the past months.
Recently, the alert that appeared at the top of the app’s home page indicating that old Duo calls were being replaced by Meet calls has disappeared. Old call logs and Calling (legacy) settings have also started disappearing from devices.
On the other hand, Google removed a number of features associated with Duo, including the Knock Knock feature that allowed viewing a preview of the caller’s video before answering, in addition to the Family and Mirror mode features. Other features like Moments, data saving mode, and low light mode are also gone.

On the other hand, Google Meet offers a set of modern features, such as instant text translation, screen sharing, in-call chat, multiple effects, and cloud encryption.
In terms of privacy, calls in Meet are now available by default via the user’s email. They can be restricted to be available to contacts only through the app settings.
