Google is finally allowing users to change the Gmail address itself, specifically the part before @gmail.com, in a long-awaited move instead of having to create a new account.
This update is currently arriving gradually within the United States, with expectations that it will expand to other countries later.
To make the change, you can go to the Google account settings, then the personal information section, choose email, and from there enter the Google account email, where the option to change the address and choose a new email appears.
Google also keeps the old address as an alternative address linked to the account, which means you will continue to receive messages on it without losing them.
However, the company imposes an important restriction: mail can only be changed once every 12 months, so the new address must be chosen carefully.
