Google has begun introducing a new feature in the Google Messages application aimed at improving the user experience, by adding a trash folder to messages.

Previously, deleting any conversation led to its permanent removal from the application directly. Now, deleted conversations will be moved to the Trash folder to remain there temporarily for up to 30 days, giving the user the opportunity to recover them if they change their mind before deleting them permanently.

When you delete a conversation, the option to move the chat to the trash will appear with an explanation that the messages will be permanently deleted after 30 days. An alert also appears that allows the user to also block the number if they want.

The new Trash folder appears inside the account menu between the Archived and Spam & Blocked sections. The folder displays the number of messages within each conversation, with the ability to permanently delete all messages or easily restore any conversation to the main list.

Google has begun testing this feature within beta version No. 20260306_02_RC00 of the application, but it has not yet reached all users participating in the testing program.
