Dreame announced a new concept model of a robot vacuum during CES 2026 in Las Vegas on January 5, 2026, which features mechanical legs that allow it to climb full-sized stairs. This model is an experimental step beyond the limitations of traditional robotic vacuums that rely on wheels and stumble over stairs or high obstacles.

The robot has four foldable and extendable legs that operate with precise motors to raise the body and climb the stairs one by one, while maintaining its balance during movement. It relies on LiDAR sensors and cameras to map the house and detect stairs, with a powerful suction system and a rotating brush to clean while going up or down. The legs can revert to wheel mode for quick movement on flat floors.

In the demo, the robot demonstrated its ability to climb an entire household staircase without assistance, with movements that appear “a little scary” due to the mechanical design resembling insects or industrial robots. Dreame has not announced a price or commercial availability date, as the device remains a concept model, with the possibility of it being developed for a commercial release in the coming years if it passes tests.

This model is seen as a potential solution to the problem of multi-storey homes, where current robotic vacuums require manual moving between floors.
