Italian Eni announces the discovery of new gas off the coast of Egypt
Preliminary estimates indicate that there are approximately two trillion cubic feet of gas in situ (GIIP) and 130 million barrels of associated condensate.
The Dennis W discovery is located 70 kilometers offshore, in 95 meters deep water, and less than 10 kilometers from existing infrastructure, allowing significant integration with existing infrastructure to accelerate the pace of development.
Like the neighboring Temsah field, which has been in production since 2001, this discovery features a gas-rich sand reservoir of excellent quality, with a net thickness of about 50 metres.
This discovery confirms Eni’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s national goals of enhancing reserves and increasing gas production, thus enhancing the country’s energy security. This new discovery confirms the success of Eni’s strategy to significantly revitalize production assets through nearby exploration and infrastructure.
The drilling of the Dennis W-1 well follows the binding agreement signed in July 2025 with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and the Egyptian General Gas and Electricity Company to renew the Temsah concession for 20 years. Eni is managing the Dennis development contract within the Crocodile concession with an operating stake of 50%, along with BP, which owns the remaining 50%. This asset is operated by Petrobel, a joint operating company between Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation.
Eni has been operating in Egypt since 1954, and today has a diversified portfolio that includes exploration, development and production, with oil and gas production reaching 242 thousand barrels of oil equivalent annually by 2025.
