The Iranian army issued a statement in response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement of his intention to impose a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz after the failure of negotiations in Islamabad.
The Iranian army threatens Trump
The Iranian army’s statement said: “The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran consider defending the legal rights of our country a natural and legal duty, and accordingly, exercising the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran in its territorial waters is a natural right of the Iranian people.”
He added: “Accordingly, the Iranian Armed Forces will continue, with all determination, to ensure security in the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran. As has been repeatedly announced, enemy ships do not have and will not have the right to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and the remaining ships will be allowed to pass through the Strait in accordance with the regulations of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
He added: “Also, given the enemy’s continued threats to the Iranian people and the national security of our country, the Islamic Republic of Iran will, after the end of the war, implement a permanent mechanism to control the Strait of Hormuz.”
He continued: “Imposing criminal American restrictions on the movement of ships in international waters is an illegal act and evidence of piracy.”
