Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir said, Minister of TransportThe government has not issued any decision to raise train or metro ticket prices during the past three years, despite increases in gasoline and diesel prices more than once during those years.

Minister of Transport: We have not provided the prices for train or metro tickets for 3 years

The minister pointed out that oil prices rose three times during the last period without moving ticket prices, stressing that the ministry is dealing with financial pressures by developing its resources, by attracting new investments, increasing advertising revenues, and obtaining support from the Ministry of Finance, instead of placing additional burdens on citizens.

The minister’s statements came during his participation in a forum organized by the National Front Party to discuss the repercussions of the war between Iran, Israel, and the United States, in the presence of a number of ministers and officials, including the Minister of Supply.

Despite the statements of the Minister of Transport, the government approved about 4 increases during the past three years, which were an increase in the prices of metro tickets on August 1, 2024, an increase in the prices of sleeper trains on April 29, 2024, an increase in tickets for the Tahya Misr trains on January 1, 2024, and finally an increase in the prices of Talgo train tickets on June 17, 2025.
