In celebration of World Theater Day, corresponding to March 27 of each year, the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, under the patronage of Dr. Jihan Zaki, Minister of Culture, represented by the National Center for Theater, Music, and Popular Arts of the Theater Sector, headed by director Hisham Atwa, celebrates World Theater Day. The celebration will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, in the garden theater of the National Center for Theater, Music, and Popular Arts in Zamalek.
The celebration includes the delivery of a speech on World Theater Day, which was written this year by the famous American theater and film artist Willem Dafoe, and translated into Arabic by Lebanese researcher Marwa Qaraouni, and the Arabic translation was approved by the International Theater Institute (ITI). The speech will be delivered by the distinguished artist Aida Fahmy.

The celebration witnesses the honoring of one of the most important men and pillars of Egyptian theater in the last three decades, the theater director and teacher Khaled Galal.
During the celebration, the results of the creative and research competitions organized by the National Center for Theater, Music and Popular Arts, headed by director Adel Hassan, will be announced this year in the fields of theater and music, namely: the Tawfiq al-Hakim Competition for Theater Composition (fifth session), the Dr. Alaa Abdel Aziz Suleiman for theatrical composition for young writers (first session), the Tutankhamun Competition for writing for children’s theater and puppet theater (first session), and the Mr. Darwish Competition for Musical Studies (first session), in which the focus of the competition was (the role of Zakaria Ahmed in Egyptian musical theatre). The celebration comes within the framework of affirming the value and role of theater in Egyptian culture, as well as celebrating the emergence of new distinguished voices in the field of Egyptian theater, creatively and research-wise.
It is noteworthy that the celebration of World Theater Day has taken place annually since 1962 at the initiative of the International Theater Institute (ITI). This celebration has become an annual cultural event that consolidates the art of theater, its value, and its role in diverse and multiple global cultures.
