In a distinctive heritage atmosphere and amid the South Sinai Governorate’s celebrations of its National Day and the 37th anniversary of the liberation of Taba, the camel racing activities in the city of Nuweiba conclude today, Wednesday, with the participation of about 100 contestants from the Bedouin tribes in various cities of the governorate.

The competition witnessed the qualification of 30 contestants to compete in the final rounds of “Al-Labbana” and “Al-Sarayem”, after completing 3 strong rounds during the past days, amid the presence of a large audience of fans of this authentic traditional sport.

The race will be held in the presence of Major General Ismail Kamal, Governor of South Sinai, Dr. Enas Samir, Major General Abdul Rahman Muhammad Bahaa El-Din, and Counselor Eid Hamdan, along with a number of executive leaders and tribal sheikhs and elders.

Saleh Muhammad Ayed, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Camel Club in the Gulf of Aqaba and Nuweiba, confirmed to Cairo 24 that the race is being organized for the fifteenth year in a row, with wide participation from the tribes of South Sinai, starting from Ras Sidr to Taba, with the aim of reviving the Bedouin heritage and introducing new generations to the value of the anniversary of the liberation of Taba and its return to Egyptian sovereignty.

He added that the race includes 5 rounds, 3 of which have been completed, and the final two rounds remain, where the “Al-Labbana” race will be held for a distance of 2 kilometers, and the “Al-Sarayem” race will be held for a distance of 4 kilometers, with the participation of 30 contestants from various cities in the governorate.

He pointed out the presence of guests of honor from the tribes of North Sinai, including the Bayadiya tribe, along with the Tarabin and Ayida tribes, in addition to the participation of the Bedouin poet Suleiman Al-Ayat, and a large number of Bedouin sheikhs, elders, and camel racing enthusiasts.

The Governor of South Sinai and his companions are scheduled to hand over prizes to the winners, at the conclusion of the activities, during his first visit to follow the camel race in the city of Nuweiba, in a scene that embodies the preservation of cultural heritage and the celebration of national occasions.
