A phone call took place between Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, and Mr. Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Brazil, on Monday, February 9, to discuss ways to support and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, in addition to exchanging visions regarding a number of regional and international issues of common interest.

Relations between Egypt and Brazil

During the call, Minister Abdel-Ati expressed the appreciation that Egypt attaches to the historical friendly relations it has with Brazil, and the extended ties based on them, praising Brazil’s position in support of Palestinian rights.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, and working to open new markets for Egyptian products with the competitive advantages required in the Brazilian market, within the framework of strengthening South-South cooperation, in a way that supports national economies and achieves common development.

The call also dealt with the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, where the Foreign Minister stressed the necessity of working to implement the entitlements of the second phase of the American plan, reiterating Egypt’s full support for the work of the National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip as a transitional framework aimed at managing the daily affairs of the Palestinians in Gaza, paving the way for the return of the Palestinian Authority to assume its full responsibilities in the Strip.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of quickly deploying the International Stabilization Force to monitor the ceasefire, the continued flow of humanitarian and relief aid, and paving the way for the early recovery and reconstruction phase.

Regarding the Iranian file, the Foreign Minister stressed the continuation of Egyptian efforts aimed at reducing the escalation, stressing the need to intensify regional and international efforts to contain tensions in the region and advance diplomatic solutions.

In this context, he explained that Egypt will continue its intensive contacts and tireless efforts to reach a consensual settlement of the Iranian nuclear file that takes into account the concerns of all parties, thus contributing to supporting regional and international security and stability.

For his part, the Brazilian Foreign Minister appreciated the pivotal role played by Egypt in supporting regional peace and security, praising its continued efforts to reduce escalation and address regional crises through peaceful and diplomatic solutions, and stressing his country’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt during the next stage.
