Sources in the Supply Directorate in Beni Suef Governorate revealed the truth about what was circulated on social media regarding the existence of a crisis in the distribution of butane cylinders in one of the governorate’s villages, explaining that the circulating video does not reflect the full picture of the incident, as it was excerpted from a video clip during the process of distributing the cylinders.

The truth about the butane cylinder crisis in a village in Beni Suef

The sources explained that the video was filmed by a citizen while a car loaded with about 900 butane gas cylinders was distributing them under the supervision of the relevant ration department, noting that while the car was at the distribution site, a large number of citizens flocked to obtain the cylinders, which caused a noticeable density and gathering in the place.

She added that part of the clip circulating on social media was cut, showing only the gathering of citizens, without showing the car that was distributing, which gave the impression of a crisis in providing cylinders, which does not reflect the whole truth.

The sources confirmed that the excerpted part of the video coincided with the intervention of some police and black market traders who tried to obtain a number of cylinders for the purpose of reselling them at higher prices outside the official distribution system, away from the supervision of the Supply Control.

She pointed out that the aforementioned village is already served by natural gas, and gas cylinders are only provided to some modern homes that have not yet received gas service, pointing out that quantities are enhanced, especially during seasons and occasions such as near Eid al-Fitr, to ensure that the needs of citizens are met and to prevent any attempts at exploitation or illegal trade in cylinders.
