Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Hafez, the veterinarian treating the Suez dog, revealed the details of the incident that sparked widespread controversy on social media, stressing that what was circulated regarding an unethical attack on the dog is not true.
He explained that he did not want to appear on social media, but he was forced to speak to clarify the truth to public opinion.
Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Hafez said that a group of young men came to the clinic with a dog that was in a severe emaciated condition, and was suffering from infections in the excretory opening, noting that he examined the condition and informed them of the required treatment.
He added that he was surprised that an argument broke out between the young men inside the clinic before they left the dog and left.
He pointed out that one of the women present at the clinic announced that she would be responsible for treating the dog, and immediately medical intervention was made to deal with the condition, as the dog was given some intravenous solutions and the area of the injury was cleaned until its condition stabilized, stressing that his role as a doctor was limited to dealing with the medical condition only.
The doctor confirmed that he was then surprised by a widespread attack campaign on social media, and accusations that he had declared an immoral attack on the dog, which he completely denied, stressing that he had not made any statement of this kind.
He added that he has been working in the field for 16 years and has dealt with various groups and has never refused to treat any case, denying reports that he is afraid to talk or deal with dog owners.
He explained that he was asked to prepare a report on the incident, so he asked to specify the competent authority to which the report should be submitted, and he also handed over the surveillance cameras to the concerned authorities.
Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Hafez indicated that he went to the police department on the same day to complete the legal procedures, stressing that the incident is still being followed up and investigated by the competent authorities.
He called on everyone not to be led by rumors or false news that are circulating on social media, stressing that he does not know the purpose of publishing such news that creates a state of panic and confusion among citizens.
