According to what was published in the Associated Press, Spaniards throw flour, eggs and fireworks in a mock battle, and the annual Els Enfarinats food-burning festival caused the Spanish town of Ibi to be covered in flour and eggshells, and every year participants dress in military-style uniforms and stage a mock coup using eggs, flour and firecrackers.
Egg sellers walk around asking for fines for donations to charity from local residents, and if you don’t pay you may end up being sprayed with eggs and flour. The festival takes place in the province of Alicante, and is more than 200 years old. It is held on December 28 of each year to coincide with the Day of the Innocents, which is equivalent to April Fool’s Day in Spain.
