Rasha Samir, Al-Saghir’s mother, recounted the details of her son’s health condition, saying in exclusive statements to “Cairo 24”: “We discovered the disease 3 years ago. I was getting an immunity check on him and the doctor asked for a nerve scan. We went a long way through medical examinations and tests, and she asked me for an analysis in Korea, and the result showed that he was suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.”

She continued: “I took him to a doctor who specializes in treating childhood dystrophy, and they took a muscle sample from him for analysis. Indeed, it was proven that he was suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, mutation 45 to 49, and he began to show complications from the injury. He falls frequently, cannot close his hands, and does not know how to move normally.”

The mother added: “Youssef has been taking medications for 5 years, such as cortisone and painkillers, all of which have caused him health complications. He bleeds and has stomach ulcers due to the medications, and his treatment requires an injection costing $3 million. I only want him to be treated, and we want to open an account to collect donations under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Solidarity.”

She continued: “My son has more health risks and complications, and he is at risk of paralysis. The doctor said that complications of muscular dystrophy usually appear at the age of 9 years until adolescence, and I hope that he will be treated before it is too late.”
