US President Donald Trump said that the United States intends to withdraw from Iran at a rapid pace, while keeping the option of carrying out limited military strikes on the table if circumstances require it.
Trump explained, during a press interview on Wednesday, that this approach comes within a broader review of American policies, indicating that he will reveal in an upcoming speech the possibility of reconsidering Washington’s relationship with NATO, including the idea of withdrawing from the alliance.
Trump touched on developments in the situation inside Iran, considering that the new leadership there is characterized by a greater degree of pragmatism and intelligence than its predecessor, noting that he had received a request for a ceasefire.
The US President linked any possible calm to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that military operations will continue until these conditions are met, and using a sharp tone regarding the future of escalation if this is not adhered to.
