A new study revealed that there are reasons that increase the desire to eat sugary foods, and thus increase the possibility of developing diabetes

Reasons for increasing the desire to eat sugar

According to what was published by The Sun website, one of the most important reasons that increase the desire to eat sugars is the following:

Not eating enough
Many people feel societal pressure to eat less or eat only certain types of foods. This takes the joy out of eating, and is an unhealthy practice that can predispose you to an eating disorder and malnutrition.

Inadequately nourishing your body will leave you feeling dissatisfied and malnourished. It is common to experience cravings, especially for high-calorie foods high in added sugar and fat, as your body tries to regain any body mass it has lost. This is a survival mechanism that the body uses in preparation for not receiving regular or adequate nutrition.

Artificial sweeteners
Many people love that artificial sweeteners allow them to eat some of their favorite sweet foods without consuming the same calories as non-diet foods, and artificial sweeteners are 180 to 13,000 times sweeter than table sugar.

Research suggests that regularly consuming artificial sweeteners can have an addiction-like effect by changing the balance of gut bacteria, leading to feelings of less satisfaction with food, and they are also linked to overeating and unwanted weight gain.

Stress and tension
A common response to feeling stressed, exhausted, or generally irritable is to seek comfort in food. Comfort foods for stress may be sweet or salty, and are usually high in added sugar, which reinforces in the brain the association between sugar and reducing stress. This can increase sugar cravings during times of stress.
