Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held a meeting on the sidelines of his participation in the fifth edition of International Mining Conference in Riyadhheld a meeting with Dominic Barton, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rio Tinto International Mining Group, during which he discussed ways to attract the world’s leading group’s investments to the Egyptian mining sector and cooperate with it to localize the latest technologies in the mining sector, in addition to discussing opportunities and mechanisms for the company to enter to invest in promising areas of the Arabian-Nubian Shield, which contributes to transforming Egypt into a regional center for the production and industry of vital and strategic minerals.
Energy transition minerals such as copper and lithium
The two sides reviewed the Egyptian geological capabilities and the opportunities available to the group to begin mineral exploration operations using its advanced geophysical surveying techniques and digital solutions. The discussions also focused on energy transition minerals such as copper and lithium, examining Egypt’s position within the global supply chains for these minerals, and benefiting from Rio Tinto’s expertise in building integrated mining projects linking the search for ore and its extraction, all the way to manufacturing processes to maximize added value.
The Minister invited the company to visit Egypt and closely explore job opportunities in the mining sector, in light of the capabilities and capabilities it possesses, making it a strategic starting point for its mining operations in North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. The geological meeting was attended by Yasser Ramadan, Chairman of the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority.
