The upcoming biopic about the life of the late pop star Michael Jackson witnessed complex production developments that led to a significant increase in its final cost, amid postponements, extensive reshoots, and fundamental changes in the dramatic structure of the work.

Michael Jackson biopic is facing a huge production crisis

According to production details, the additional cost of the film reached between 10 and 15 million dollars, bringing the total budget from about 155 million dollars to much higher levels, after a complete restructuring of the work and re-shooting a number of scenes in Los Angeles within 22 days in June 2025.

The most prominent reason for this increase is due to an unexpected legal provision, as it was later revealed that a previous settlement related to a historical case included a condition preventing the depiction or reference to specific details within the film, which prompted the work team to delete an entire chapter and rebuild it dramatically again.

The deleted chapter, according to production leaks, focused on one of the most controversial stages of Michael Jackson’s life, before it was replaced in the new version with a greater focus on different periods of his artistic career, especially the stage of commercial successes during the Bad Tour.

The challenges did not stop at the legal aspect, as the production was also subjected to additional disruptions after a fire in California caused damage to a work site, which led to further delays in the schedule and pushed the final show date from 2025 to 2026.

Information indicates that the final version of the film will provide a different treatment for the character, focusing on family aspects, especially the complex relationship between Jackson and his father, in addition to addressing some artistic and personal milestones such as his injury in the 1980s and his health struggles in the later stages of his life.

The character of Michael in the film is embodied by his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in a move that added a special emotional dimension to the work, while controversy remains over the ability of the final version to present a balanced picture of the life of one of the most influential and controversial figures in the history of music.

As the date of its release in theaters approaches, the most prominent question remains whether the film will achieve a balance between historical accuracy and artistic vision, in light of the profound modifications that occurred to it during the complex stages of its production.
