A clear violation of the Geneva Conventions

The representative stressed that this law directly contradicts the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee the protection of prisoners and ensure their humane treatment, noting that the passage of such legislation represents a clear undermining of international legal guarantees, and a violation of basic human rights, most notably the right to life, in addition to being a waste of the principles of justice and the rule of law.

An escalation that threatens peace efforts

Hana Anis Rizkallah stressed that taking such steps would increase tension in the region and undermine any serious efforts to revive the peace process, stressing that current Israeli policies are moving in an escalatory direction that threatens regional security and stability, and greatly complicates the political scene.

A call for a decisive international stance

The member of the Foreign Relations Committee called on the international community to take immediate and decisive action to stop these violations, stressing that silence towards such unacceptable laws encourages their continuation and gives cover for further violations against the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of taking clear positions that condemn these policies and work to deter them.

The representative concluded her statements by emphasizing Egypt’s firm position in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and its categorical rejection of any measures that affect the lives of prisoners or detract from their rights, calling for the necessity of activating international mechanisms that guarantee the protection of human dignity, and working hard to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that preserves the rights of all parties.
