Dr. Jacqueline Azer, Governor of Beheira, opened Al-Mahatta Square in Damanhour after the completion of its development work, which is the largest and most important square in the governorate, coinciding with the start of the celebration and the reception of Eid Al-Fitr, to be a new joy for the people.

The Governor of Beheira inaugurates Al Mahatta Square, the largest in the governorate, after its development, amid joy and praise from citizens

The opening of the square comes after months of intensive work and field follow-up, as the governorate paid great attention to the project, believing in the importance of developing the main squares as the first cultural interface of the governorate, and given its importance as a destination for all those attending the railway, and eliminating traffic congestion in the region.

During the opening, the Governor of Beheira confirmed that Al Mahatta Square is one of the most vital squares in the city of Damanhour and Beheira Governorate in general, as it serves thousands of citizens daily, and has witnessed comprehensive development in accordance with the latest architectural and cultural systems, to reflect the new face of Beheira Governorate and keep pace with integrated urban development plans.

Artistic and heritage items for tahtib and tanoura were presented.

The design took into account that in the middle of the square there is a distinctive panoramic mural entitled “The Lake between Heritage and Development,” which represents an integrated work of art that embodies the governorate’s identity and reflects its cultural features in a visual formulation that combines the ancient past, the renewed present, and a vision for the future.

The mural includes heritage and architectural symbols that express the history of the lake, where features of Islamic and Coptic architecture juxtapose, embodying the values of national unity and tolerance, in addition to highlighting the unique Rashid architecture and the Damanhour Opera House as a shining cultural beacon.

The Rosetta Stone also appears at the heart of the mural as a global symbol that expresses the genius of the place, along with the governorate’s slogan, which combines the shield (industry) and the spike (agriculture), indicative of the pillars of development.

On the other hand, the mural reflects the features of the present and the future through symbols of science, knowledge, and technological progress, as well as highlighting the sectors of agriculture, industry, and transportation, in an artistic painting that confirms the continuity of civilization and the integration of its elements.

The mural was executed in the style of wall sculpture (Bas-Relief), in a panoramic visual composition that allows the recipient to read the details of the work gradually, to tell a conservative story that combines authenticity, contemporaryity, and ambition.

The development project included replanning the entire square in an integrated, civilized manner, where an open theater was created that represents a distinct cultural and artistic addition, in addition to providing civilized seating places for citizens, to be a safe and attractive outlet for families.

Green spaces were also expanded, trees and flowers were planted, and modern aesthetic elements were added, in addition to unifying the cultural appearance of the surrounding area through painting buildings, in order to achieve an integrated visual vision that reflects the beauty of the city.

As part of improving traffic movement, advanced, highly efficient traffic axes were implemented, and designated parking areas were created, including internal transportation buses, service cars, and private cars, which contributes to achieving traffic fluidity and preventing congestion.

Dr. Jacqueline Azer emphasized that the development of Al Mahatta Square comes within the framework of the governorate’s vision to develop the main squares and streets, and improve the quality of life for citizens, noting that the project embodies an integrated model that combines beauty, organization, and services.

She added that the coinciding of the opening of the square with the Eid al-Fitr pause carries a message of joy and a gift for the people of Damanhour, and reflects the state’s keenness to bring joy to the hearts of citizens through real development projects on the ground.
