Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hodhud, former president of Al-Azhar University, opened the first Tarawih lesson activity at Al-Azhar Mosque, stressing that Surat Al-Baqarah is a speech to the hearts, and that the worship of fasting is characterized by God’s special monitoring of the servant, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting, for it is Mine and I will reward it.”

The hoopoe explained that the provisions of fasting are related to the hearts, as God looks at the hearts of His servants, indicating that fasting represents an applied practice of benevolence, as a person worships God as if he sees Him, indicating that what is required of the nation in this holy month is to focus on four heartfelt worships: the first is the worship of hope, the second is the worship of gratitude, the third is the worship of piety, and the fourth is the worship of maturity, stressing that fasting constitutes a practical plan to build hearts and strengthen the spirit.

The former president of Al-Azhar University pointed out that fasting is not limited to abstaining from food and drink, but rather includes self-restraint from sin, and developing feelings of compassion and social solidarity, while contemplating and thanking God’s blessings, explaining that these values ​​are what create a balanced and cohesive society, capable of facing life’s challenges in the spirit of faith and patience.

At the conclusion of his speech, he called on all Muslims to invest this holy month in strengthening their relationship with God, reviewing and purifying the soul, and working to spread human and moral values ​​in society, stressing that fasting is an annual opportunity to renew the hearts and soul, and build a better life for the individual and the nation.
