Salma Bahjat’s family issued their first statements following the execution of the death sentence against their daughter’s killer, stressing that they do not see anything new that can be added, and that justice has been achieved.
After the death sentence was carried out for their daughter’s killer, the family said: “The ruling was a little delayed, but we are confident in the justice of the judiciary, and may God have mercy on our daughter.” Salma Bahgat’s uncle published a post on social media in which he expressed his satisfaction with the execution of the death sentence for a peaceful killer, affirming his confidence in the justice of God and Egypt’s judiciary, and wishing mercy for the pure soul of Salma Bahgat.
Salma Bahjat’s uncle wrote in the post: “Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds. In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace be upon you.” And there is life for you in retaliation, O people of understanding, that you may become righteous.
The death sentence was carried out yesterday on the treacherous murderer Islam, the murderer of Salma Bahjat… the daughter of this family. This is a just ruling from the judge of heaven and the judge of earth. We are confident in the justice of God and in the lofty judiciary of Egypt. The events of the incident date back to August 2022, when the city of Zagazig witnessed a horrific crime in which the student, Salma Bahjat, a student at the Faculty of Information, was killed, who was on her way to her training headquarters at one of the sites.
Investigations revealed that the accused had previously known the victim, and tried to associate with her, but she refused, which prompted him to plan revenge on her.
Investigations added that he lurked for her in front of the entrance to the property that houses the headquarters of the newspaper where she was training, and upon her arrival, he surprised her with a white weapon, stabbing her 31 separate times throughout her body, according to the forensic report.
The people tried to save her and take her to the hospital, but she died as a result of her injury, and the incident turned into a public opinion issue that sparked widespread anger.
The security services were able to arrest the accused after the incident, and he was referred to trial, where the Zagazig Criminal Court ruled that he be executed by hanging.
After appealing the ruling, the Court of Cassation upheld the sentence, so that the death sentence was executed and ended one of the most prominent cases that occupied public opinion during the recent period.
