Dar Al-Iftaa received a question from one of its followers, which read: What is the ruling on condolence when the mourner says to the family of the dead: (May God console you)?

The Fatwa said on its website: It is desirable to condole the family of the dead with every kind expression that reminds of patience in the face of calamity, and to pray for the deceased and his family.

There is nothing wrong with condoling the family of the dead by saying: “May God console you” according to Sharia law, except that it is preferable to use the words and formulas mentioned in the purified Sunnah of the Prophet. It should be noted that in such expressions of condolence and congratulations, the formulas and words that are commonly known among people are taken into account, provided that they do not contravene Sharia law.

Earlier, Dr. Muhammad Al-Duwaini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar, today, Sunday, at Al-Azhar Conference Center, accompanied by Dr. Salama Dawoud, President of Al-Azhar University, and Dr. Muhammad Al-Jundi, Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy, inspected the launch of the exams for the third and final stage of scholarship in the year 2026 AD, within the framework of the continuous field follow-up of the scholarship system, and Al-Azhar’s keenness to organize its work in accordance with the approved controls and standards.

The Undersecretary of Al-Azhar stressed that the third stage tests represent the final stage in the scholarship path, stressing that these tests reflect Al-Azhar’s commitment to standards of integrity and justice, and guarantee its honorable representation in various countries of the world, by selecting the most competent applicants academically, advocacy and behaviourally.
