The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), announced the launch of the National Clean Hydrogen Program – Egypt, at the Authority’s headquarters in the New Capital, with the aim of accelerating Egypt’s transformation towards a competitive economy based on green hydrogen.
The program is scheduled to contribute to the implementation of an integrated package of activities aimed at enhancing Egypt’s readiness for green hydrogen investments, which includes preparing pre-feasibility studies and feasibility studies for priority projects, providing technical support and assistance in preparing policies, in addition to strengthening institutional and national capabilities, as well as supporting the establishment of a center of excellence for green hydrogen at the headquarters of the Suez Canal Economy in Sokhna.

The launch events witnessed the presence of representatives of the Ministries of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and Local Development and Environment, in addition to a UNIDO delegation headed by Ms. Petra Schwager, Head of the Climate and Technology Partnerships Division.

Launching the National Clean Hydrogen Program
In this context, he emphasized Walid Jamal Al-DinChairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, said that the launch of the National Clean Hydrogen Program represents an important step within the state’s efforts to shift towards a green economy, indicating that the Authority places as its top priority support for clean energy projects and the localization of related industries within its industrial zones.
He added that this program enhances these efforts, by providing technical studies, institutional support, and capacity building, which contributes to creating an attractive investment environment capable of competing at the regional and international levels.
Walid Gamal El-Din indicated that the Suez Canal Economic Zone is moving forward in implementing its strategy aimed at attracting foreign direct investments, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and supporting the transformation of the energy sector within the integrated industrial zones, stressing that the authority aims to confirm Egypt’s position as a regional center for the production, trading and export of green hydrogen, in a way that achieves added value to the national economy and supports the path of sustainable development.
In the same context, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) affirmed its pride in partnering with the Egyptian side in this transformative endeavor, as Egypt has great potential that qualifies it to be one of the leading countries in the field of green hydrogen, and through this program we are taking together a decisive step towards building a clean, sustainable and competitive economy, as the program aims to accelerate climate-friendly solutions, create local value, enhance innovation, and drive comprehensive industrial and economic development.
