Just as the night is a period of calm and tranquility for humans, it is also a period of activity for devils and jinn. That is why the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, made sure to lie on the right side, place the right hand under the right cheek, shake the bed three times before sleeping with the edge of the garment, and also turn off the fire, close the doors, and cover the vessel.
It was his constant Sunnah to sleep with ablution, and to blow on the palms with the exorcist, bringing his palms together and blowing into them (light blowing with saliva), reciting Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and Al-Nas 3 times, wiping with them as much of his body as he could, starting with the head, face, and the front part of the body. He repeated this three times, in addition to reciting Ayat Al-Kursi and the last two verses of Surat Al-Baqarah.
