Saw province Port Said A new sinking incident of the merchant ship FENER.

The Suez Canal Authority sent two tugs and three maritime rescue boats and succeeded in retrieving the entire crew and taking them to receive care at one of the Suez Canal Authority’s medical centers, as one of the sailors suffered a dislocated shoulder.

After a period of more than a year, the marine rescue units of the Suez Canal Authority succeeded in saving the cargo ship LABATROS from complete sinking, and rescuing its 12-member marine crew, in a rapid response to the ship’s distress call on April 24, 2024, immediately after it entered the northern waiting area for ships at the entrance to Port Said Drift, and before it joined the northern convoy to cross the Suez Canal.

Two years later Fener sank in the same place

The FENER ship, coming from, came to repeat the same scene in the same place where the first ship sank these days, January 2025, after it left with a load of salt amounting to 4,000 tons from the port of East Port Said, heading to the territorial waters.

Rescue the sailors and captain

The captain of the ship quickly sent a distress request to the actions of the Suez Canal Authority for discovering a large hole in the hull of the boat that led to sea water leaking into it. He expressed his desire to head towards the shore to be able to load the boat for fear that it would sink, so he allowed him.

After the boat reached the shallow water area on the shore of Port Said and the success of the stranding operation, the boat was unable to withstand the strong sea waves, which reached a height of between 3.5 meters and 5 metres, in addition to the strong winds. The boat sank at a slope of 10 degrees to the right and began to sink, which prompted the captain to once again send out a distress call to rescue him and the boat’s crew, which numbered 12 sailors.

After the completion of the first aid and health care, the marine crew left for one of the Authority’s rest houses, and marine maneuvering work began from the marine rescue crews to reach the most appropriate solutions to re-recover and refloat the ship, which was submerged in seawater, 90% of its parts.

Maneuvering and situation assessment operations are still being conducted by the Suez Canal naval crews as of the writing of these lines, in preparation for floating it again at a later time, especially after the sea storm subsides.
