Major General Hazem Hammadi, a member of the House of Representatives, submitted a briefing request to Counselor Hisham Hanafi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to direct him to the Prime Minister, and the Ministers of Petroleum, Mineral Resources, Supply, Local Development, and the Environment, regarding the worsening crisis in the distribution of butane pipes within the governorates of Upper Egypt, and in particular Sohag Governorate, which has led to real suffering for citizens and the difficulty of obtaining pipes at official and regular prices.

Request for information regarding the continued suffering of the people of Upper Egypt in obtaining butane gas pipes

In this context, Representative Hazem Hammadi raised a number of burning questions that require urgent and clear answers:

1. What are the reasons for the delay in supplying butane pipes to the governorates of Upper Egypt, and what measures have been taken to ensure that they reach citizens on time?

2. Why are large quantities kept in warehouses and logistics centers without regular distribution to citizens?

3. What guarantees has the government put in place to prevent tampering with the distribution of butane gas pipes or diverting them to the black market?

4. Is there periodic and field monitoring of butane warehouses in Upper Egypt governorates to ensure compliance with official quantities and prices?

5. What are the government’s plans to increase the production and provision of pipes to cover the growing needs in rural and remote areas?

6. What environmental and health measures are taken to ensure the safety of stored and distributed pipes, and to avoid any risks to citizens?

Major General Hazem Hammadi monitored a number of urgent proposals to resolve the crisis, including:

Intensifying sudden oversight campaigns on butane warehouses to prevent monopoly or smuggling of pipes to the black market, while developing a clear and precise distribution plan for each governorate, while adhering to fixed timetables for providing pipes in all centers and cities.

Establishing an electronic mechanism to track the quantities of stored and distributed butane, and linking it to the governorates of Upper Egypt to ensure transparency and accountability, and increasing logistical support from transport vehicles and butane tanks to facilitate the arrival of pipes to remote areas, in addition to imposing strict penalties on violating merchants and warehouses who obstruct the delivery of pipes to citizens.

Major General Hazem Hammadi stressed that the continuation of the butane gas pipeline crisis in Upper Egypt constitutes a violation of the right of citizens to obtain their basic needs, and that he calls on the government to take immediate and decisive measures to end the suffering, and to ensure the arrival of basic petroleum products at official prices and with full regularity, in order to protect the rights and human dignity of the citizens of Upper Egypt, led by the people of Sohag Governorate.
