Today’s Friday sermon at Al-Azhar Mosque was delivered by Dr. Hassan Al-Saghir, professor at the Faculty of Sharia and Law in Cairo, President of Al-Azhar International Academy, and General Supervisor of the Fatwa Committees at Al-Azhar Mosque, the topic of which revolved around the functions of Ramadan and the building of man in the Qur’an.

Hassan Al-Saghir said: We are on the third Friday of the blessed month of Ramadan, and God Almighty has gathered in this month the reasons for all righteousness and success. At its beginning, it is a reminder of piety, which is the gateway to all righteousness and success in this world and the hereafter, as the Almighty God mentioned the meanings of success, righteousness, reform, and victory in the context of his speech about the obligation of fasting.

Al-Azhar Mosque preacher: The month of Ramadan is a school for human development and a gateway to victory and piety

He added that God Almighty reminded us of every conquest and victory in Ramadan. Emphasizing that fasting is a gateway to victory as well as a gateway to piety, the month of Ramadan is the month of victories and conquests, and a station of faith in which the victory of truth over falsehood and the soul over desires is embodied, clarifying that fasting was never a reason for weakness, but rather it was fuel for the hearts and a light for insight. In Ramadan, God humiliated the polytheists at Badr, and in it the armies of conquest were launched. Whoever conquers himself and tames it into obedience deserves to be supported by God, for fasting is spiritual preparation, and victory is a divine glory.

Al-Saghir continued that victory in fasting is not limited to invasions and battles only, but rather it is a general conquest and success in this world and the afterlife. Fasting is a gateway to building and rebuilding and realizing the meaning of succession, stressing that the sweetness of Ramadan is not just a ritual of ritual, but rather an effect that appears in the souls of the believers, where the believer is more sincere and proficient in the work that pleases God Almighty.

The preacher of Al-Azhar Mosque explained that the rituals of Ramadan are an activity in life and acts of worship through which we draw closer to God and seek help in reforming our religion and our world, and that good deeds do not stop at the limits of outward acts of worship, but rather extend to every beneficial work in this world and the hereafter through which the servant becomes closer to God Almighty.

At the conclusion of the sermon, he stressed the necessity of savoring the scents of Ramadan with a conscious spirit and correct understanding, so that the Muslim emerges from the month with his conditions transformed into better conditions, referring to God’s promise to respond in this holy month, citing the Almighty’s saying: “And when My servants ask you about Me, then indeed I am near, I answer the call of the supplicant.” When He calls upon Me, let them respond to Me and believe in Me that they may be guided.
