The city of St. Catherine witnessed a large tourist demand for religious and spiritual shrines, although visits to St. Catherine’s Monastery were temporarily halted due to the glorious Easter celebrations.
The city recorded an influx of hundreds of visitors who were keen to experience the experience of climbing Mount Moses, to watch the sunrise in a scene that combines contemplation and adventure, in addition to visiting St. Catherine Reserve and the colorful valleys, in one of the most prominent tourist experiences in Egypt.
Ibrahim Abdel Halim, Director General of Public Relations and Media in the city, confirmed to Cairo 24 that the number of visitors reached 404 tourists from multiple nationalities, including Greece, France, Germany, England, Russia, Brazil, Afghanistan, Malaysia and Poland, in addition to 133 Egyptian visitors, which reflects the global status that St. Catherine enjoys as a distinguished tourist and spiritual destination. The tourists and visitors climbed Mount Moses to watch the sunrise and celebrate. Sham Al-Nessim on top of the mountain.
The climate was moderate, with temperatures recorded at about 19 degrees Celsius at a high and 8 degrees at a low, providing ideal conditions for night climbing trips and various tourist activities.
The trip was not limited to climbing the mountain, but extended to include learning about Bedouin life, buying heritage products, and visiting the rest house of the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat, in an integrated experience that combines nature, history, and culture.
This tourism movement comes in light of the growing interest in the Great Transfiguration Project, which aims to strengthen the city’s position as a global destination for religious tourism, and consolidate its role as a spiritual symbol that brings together followers of the three monotheistic religions, which confirms the continued attractiveness of St. Catherine as one of the most important tourist destinations in the world.
