The New York Times, citing officials familiar with the diplomatic track, reported that the United States had sent Iran a 15-item plan aimed at ending the war in the Middle East, through Pakistan’s mediation, in a move that reflects the desire of the Donald Trump administration to find a way out of the conflict amid its economic repercussions.
Peace between Washington and Tehran
The newspaper added that it is not yet clear whether Iran will accept the plan as a basis for negotiation, nor is Israel’s position on it clear, in light of the continuation of joint military operations between Washington and Tel Aviv against Iran for about four weeks.
Trump indicated in his previous statements that negotiations to end the war are underway, and that the Iranians want to conclude an agreement, explaining that these talks involve Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with prominent advisors.
On the other hand, Iran publicly denies holding any negotiations, although Iranian officials confirm that there is an indirect exchange of messages with Washington through mediators to reduce the escalation.
According to the report, the American plan addresses Iran’s missile and nuclear programs, in addition to navigation routes, especially in light of Tehran’s actual closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which led to disruption of global energy supplies.
There have been no signs yet that the war is close to ending, as Israeli officials expect it to continue for weeks, at a time when Iran continues to launch missiles towards Israel and neighboring countries.
