Details of the new ministerial directive

The statements of the Undersecretary in Luxor come in direct implementation of the directives of Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, regarding Ministerial Directive No. 5 of 2026 issued in March.

This directive aims to regulate and monitor the prices and weights of free bread to ensure market stability and provide bread at fair prices to citizens, especially in the wake of recent changes in fuel prices.

In a related context, the Assistant Minister of Supply for Control and Distribution Affairs explained the details of the prices and weights approved by the ministerial directive, noting that the price of tourist bread is as follows: the price of a loaf weighing 80 grams is a maximum of 2 pounds, a loaf of 60 grams is 1.5 pounds, and a loaf of 40 grams is one pound.

As for fino (french) bread, the price of a 50-gram loaf is set at a maximum of 2 pounds, a 40-gram loaf is 1.5 pounds, and a 30-gram loaf is only one pound.

These measures aim to control the tourist bread market and unify bread prices in Luxor and various governorates.

The Ministry of Supply, through its directorates, is working to tighten control over French and tourist bakeries, to enhance consumer protection and ensure that citizens obtain their full rights without any manipulation of the prescribed weights or prices.
